Long Weekend Aotearoa

Stays

Four floors, and the rooms within walking distance

New Zealand licenses four casino venues. Two have hotels attached; the other two you walk to. This is the difference between them, and what each room rate actually covers.

About the four floors When to come

SkyCity Grand Hotel

Auckland · On site

The dressier of the two SkyCity towers, connected to the floor by an internal walkway so you never step outside.

  • 316 rooms
  • Connected to floor
  • Spa
  • Federal Street dining

SkyCity Hotel Auckland

Auckland · On site

The original tower: simpler rooms, the same walkway, and the better rate of the two most weeks of the year.

  • 300+ rooms
  • Connected to floor
  • Sky Tower access

SkyCity Queenstown

Queenstown · Walkable

A small lakeside floor with no hotel of its own — stay in the town centre and walk five minutes.

  • Town centre
  • Ski season peak
  • Small floor

Novotel Christchurch Cathedral Square

Christchurch · Near Christchurch Casino

Ten minutes on foot from Christchurch Casino, and the most reliable mid-range room in the central city.

  • Central
  • 10 min walk

Sudima Christchurch City

Christchurch · Near Christchurch Casino

A quieter option a block further out, useful when the Novotel fills up around events at Te Pae.

  • Event overflow
  • Parking

The four licensed venues

Everything on this site is arranged around these. There is no fifth — anything advertising itself as one is not licensed to operate here.

Four things worth knowing first

The floor is free

Casino entry costs nothing and needs no booking. Nothing about the room rate depends on it.

Twenty, not eighteen

The entry age for a New Zealand casino floor is 20. The hotel will happily sell you a room at 18.

Queenstown is a season

Ski months move room rates more than anything the casino does. Book months out for July and August.

Ask for the far side

Both Auckland towers have rooms away from the venue side. They are not offered by default.

We are not a booking agent. Every reservation is made with the hotel, under its own terms. We hold nothing, take no payment, and cannot change or refund a stay.

Licensed venues only. The four casinos here hold licences under the Gambling Act 2003. We do not list offshore online operators.

Common questions

Do any of the casinos have their own hotel?

Auckland does — two towers, both connected to the floor by an internal walkway. Hamilton, Queenstown and Christchurch do not, so the answer there is a hotel a short walk away.

What ID do I need?

A New Zealand driver licence, Kiwi Access card or passport, physical rather than photographed. Checked at the door every time, regardless of how old you look.

Is there a dress code?

Smart casual across all four. No beachwear, no work boots, no team colours. Queenstown is the most relaxed, Christchurch the most traditional.

Can I self-exclude?

Yes, at any venue, arranged at the host desk. It applies across that operator's venues and can be extended nationally on request.

How does this site make money?

Referral tracking on some outbound links. It changes nothing about what we list, the order, or your rate.
